In the autumn term 2013 a seminar «Press Photography in Cameroon – African Visual History and the Archive» took place at the Centre for African Studies, University of Basel.
On four consecutive Saturdays students were introduced into four key topics relevant for the ongoing project in the Press Photo Archives Buea, Cameroon, “Cameroon Photo Press Archives. Protection, conservation, access” funded by the Endangered Archives Programme (administered by the British Library) and the Swiss Office for Culture.
The four thematic modules encompassed introductions into the history of African photography, the concept of documentary photography, the theoretical and practical dimensions of the archive with a specific focus on photo archives and finally an overview of the history of anglophone Cameroon.
